Pieta’s 2025 Annual Report
Our 2025 Annual Report shares a year of free support for people affected by suicide and self-harm. Alongside its publication, our Chair gives an update on the work to keep that support available for the future.
“A friend helped me call Pieta and that’s when everything started to change.”
Through therapy, Ciaran found tools to cope and support to set goals and make decisions about his life.
His experience is one of the stories in Pieta’s 2025 Annual Report, published today. The report shares the work of our free, professional services for people experiencing suicidal thoughts or self-harm, and for people bereaved by suicide.

Support across Ireland
In 2025, our teams responded to 98,158 crisis contacts and provided 41,253 hours of therapy and counselling to 6,029 people. Our Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service also supported 500 families.
That work ranges from listening in a moment of crisis to helping someone develop tools to cope, or supporting a family following a suicide bereavement.
Keeping support available for the future
Alongside the publication of our Annual Report, Pieta Chair Dr Terry McWade has provided an update on the work to strengthen Pieta's financial sustainability and protect its services for the future:
Our 2025 Annual Report highlighted the significant financial challenges facing Pieta and the need to secure the organisation's long-term sustainability. During the year, the Board oversaw the Accelerated Sustainability Programme, which involved difficult decisions to reshape our organisation, reduce costs and strengthen our operating model while protecting our core services.
I am pleased to report that this work has continued to deliver significant progress. The deficit reduced from €3.6 million in 2024 to €2.5 million in 2025, and we have continued to implement the programme throughout 2026. We are now forecasting a close to breakeven position, representing an important milestone in strengthening Pieta's financial sustainability.
This progress gives us a stronger foundation for the future and enables us to focus on continuing to improve our services, strengthen our partnerships and ensure that Pieta remains resilient and sustainable for the years ahead.
I want to thank our CEO, staff, volunteers, supporters, funders, partners and trustees for their commitment throughout a period of considerable change. Above all, our focus remains on the people who turn to Pieta for support.
Dr Terry McWade, Chair of Pieta
